What grace there is in humility! Being the perfect friend, the good student, the overachieving employee, the person with a fantastic body or the perfect this or that - not only is it impossible, it is living outside of grace. It says, I can do it. Don't you see everything I can do? I can do it without you. But to be humbled, to realize your weaknesses and run to got with your shortcomings, that is living under grace. Because at that exact moment, a certain kind of relief comes to you. It is relief that is eternal: load-removing, relationship-restoring, and life-giving.
