It is always so awkward. People ask you what you want for your birthday, which basically means, "what can I buy you to make you feel loved. Tell me what to spend my money on." So you say, "Oh, nothing." But then you realize that if you don't say anything, they're bound to get you something anyways, and you'll just try to re-gift it to someone who wasn't there to witness the opening of the . . . teddy bear dishtowel.
