My grandfather

My grandpa died yesterday. He has been in a nursing home with bad bad bad alzheimers for the last little while. He has had his good days with a twinkle in his eye, and he has had bad days where he hasn't spoken a word. But today is a good day for my grandfather, an incredibly good day.

I feel oddly cool towards the entire situation. He has been checked out for so long, I can't imagine how our lives will change at all. My grandma will be sad, no doubt, but I anticipate more of a feeling of relief to spread through the family, rather than anguish. Is that because he has lead a long good life? Was it simply his time? I hope so.

Here are my memories:

My only grandfather -
He loved to play croquet and had a competitive grin that made us kids laugh.
He knew the importance of scripture and knew much of it.
He set up Sunday Schools all over the country.
He served in the Navy during the War.
He was the father of 4 children.
He loved to tinker in his shop and fix things.
He would take Christi and I on a sled behind his tractor into the forest to help us make forts.
He built fires.
He prayed.
He was my Grandfather.

Lester Spencer. Enjoy Heaven.
