Today we arrived in Placerville, whereI spent my first 7 years becoming a person. We met with Dad's brother John, his secretary Peggy, John's wife Peggy, my cousin Aaron, my cousin Cristin and have landed at my grandma's old house, now the house of my dad's sister Myrna, her husband and her daughter (my childhood best friend) Nikki. Talk about old home week. I just fell in love all over again with Green Gables, the little house Dad lived in during the divorce that is on Grandma's property. So very little has changed, and yet I feel as though I have missed so much.
Our first day, we met with Dad's sister Judi and her husband Bruce in Friant, just north of Fresno. She is earthshatteringly fantastic and it made me so sad to know how little I truly know her. The next day, we left and drove to Santa Cruz and had a corndog on the boardwalk and rode the little gondola along the beach. We bought hats and put the convertible top down as we drove off to San Francisco. There we parked, had appetizers in the Italian district, walked to the Fisherman's Wharf and then back to North Beach for an enchantingly perfect dinner. We then left for the airport and picked Ryan up in Oakland.
We spent the weekend with Ryan's family and Carolyn had a way fun wedding shower for me. The trunk is loaded with gifts to the point of needing a bigger car. I think the little Sebring can make it though. Rolling blackouts hit the Bay area, so we went without air conditioning in 113 degree weather. Not particularly my cup of tea.
But here we are, surrounded by good family, just being people. What sweet sorrow great family brings. I want to be with them, but you just can't be close to everyone all the time.
This has been lovely. Tomorrow off to Reno. Home late Thursday Night. See you then.
