The recipe . . .

As I look at the beautiful drool-over-me room settings in places like Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware's websites, there seems to be a fairly constant recipe. Here's what the Sherlock in me can deduce:

1. Window treatments - full length. Shutters, or ample, billowy, straight-hanging drapery panels at every window opportunity.
2. Layers upon layers upon layers of blankets. Essential: enormously puffy down comforter, duvet perfectly pressed to perfection, not a single wrinkle. Layers of additional throws, sheet etc., all folded neatly into pleated layers of beddy goodness.
3. Insane amounts of overly-puffy pillows. Puffiness seems to be a trend. Standard pillows, square pillows, round pillows, long pillows etc.
4. Over the headboard of the bed, some sort of arty somethings - maybe a collection of 3 paintings, maybe something else.
5. At the foot of the bed, a bench, a box, a cute chair, a table, something . . .
6. Nightstand: 1 lamp and 1 pretty item.
7. Lighting: some sort of pendanty chandeliery focal pointy thing hanging dead center over the bed or the crib.

Its so funny how so much of this is TOTALLY unrealistic for a child's bedroom: long drapes to get tangled in and pull down. A chandelier to jump from the bed and hang on. White carpets. Layers and layers of bedding to be dry-cleaned in case of an "accident", and of course, everything is organized and spacious. Ha! No kids room has EVER looked like that . . . unless the kid is never allowed in there :o)
