So here it is, my master baby item list. For any first time mommas out there, these are the things that have made my life livable (and actually quite enjoyable). I'm actually quite surprised at how long this list is . . . scary! :o)
- Clothes: Often not needed on a registry because you may get hand-me-downs and most people can't resist buying baby clothes regardless :o)
- Pajamas: the gown ones with the elastic at the bottom are amazing because its less work in the middle of the night to change diapers with only half a brain
- Footie rompers (Target calls them "Sleep'N'Plays")
- Socks
- Hats, some warm, some brimmed
- Swaddle Designs 40" square swaddle blankets. They are simply the best. No questions about it.
- Miracle Blanket for swaddling
- Co-Sleeper or Bassinet for the first little while of baby being in your room
- Crib
- Crib sheets (2)
- Waterproof mattress pad
- Crib skirt
- Note: the bedding sets available for retail price are insane. Check Craigslist, or make your own :o)
- Changing table - I'd recommend one that's a dresser with a changing area on top - maximize your storage!
- Changing pad
- Changing pad covers (2) - note: the terrycloth ones are scratchy!
- Glider rocking chair - total must have!!
- VIDEO MONITOR!!!!!!!
- Pack'N'Play with built-in, removable changing table
- Pack'N'Play sheet
- Diapers
- Diaper Cream
- Wipes
- Wipe Warmer (optional)
- Baby Wash - we love all things Burt's Bees!
- Washcloths
- Hoodie Towels
- Note: we never used a baby bathtub - we just used our kitchen sink
- Baby grooming/first aid kit
- Breast pump
- Bottles - we used Dr. Browns
- Bottle brush
- Bottle drying rack - we have a cool one that looks like grass and love it
- Breast Milk Storage Bags
- Medela microwave sanitizer bags
- Soothie/Gumdrop pacifiers
- Infant Carseat
- Strollers (we had 3 - 1 frame one that the infant carseat clipped into, 1 lightweight umbrella stroller for in the back of the car, and 1 nice jogging stroller - we'd totally recommend Phil & Teds that easily and compactly converts to a double)
- Baby Carrier - Ergo is best, but we liked the Moby and the Bjorn with lumbar strap would've been good
- Mirror for the backseat of the car so you can see rear-facing baby
- Diaper backpack (I actually never used our diaper bag - just a sleek little black backpack from the pediatrician for free!)
- Nursing bras - get pretty ones! be careful of underwire
- Nursing tanks
- Nursing pads - I tried the disposable, but preferred the cotton reusable ones
- Lanisoh nipple cream/oil
- Nipple shield - if lactation consultant suggests, sure saved my life!!
- Boppy nursing pillow
- Nursing cover - like a hooter hider
- "Sili" reusable baby food squeezie pouches
- Bibs - Jules was a spitter!
- Space Saver high chair that clips onto a dining chair, or one that clips onto your dining table
- Bumbo seat
- Carbon monoxide monitor
- Chemical/dye-free laundry detergent
- Baby book
- Humidifier
- Mylicon Gas Drops
- Baby Tylenol
- Hylands Teething Tablets
- Swing or bouncy seat - most babies are either or so I'd borrow or get used until you know what kind of kid you have
