I just got flattened by the steamroller called Interior Design.
Today I went into work at 8am. We had the day off school. As I reached for the doorknob, I half dreamed of feeling the door locked and knowing I could go crawl back in bed for another couple hours and spend a leisurely day with Jessica. No such luck. My day began regularly, like any other - going through the MIA purchasing girl's desk trying to find passwords for online ordering and books with zipper numbers etc. Then I went up to my office to be taught the world by Mr. Mike Sophie. He asked me what I would do if a client walked into the conference room and wanted me to make their boat amazing. After stuttering, he took over and taught me what I ended up needing to know only a few short hours later. You know, I don't even think he noticed I didn't leave for class - he just kept going. About 11am, I am realizing I am getting hungry and that I haven't been to the bathroom in over three hours. He says grab a tape measure - we're going on a field trip, I assume to a boat.
He calls Stefanie, the old designer for Barrett and asks if she is home. We decide to stop by (still on the clock though, so that's cool). After touring her home, we all go to Mike's house to measure for a valence in his master suite. By now it's about 2:00. No bathroom, no food. About to die. Drop Stefanie back off at home. He asks if I want to stop by the Ballard Market for some lunch. YES!!!! So I grab a cup of soup and as we are getting rung up, my soup explodes. Not cool. So we get back in the car only to hear a call from his partner.
It's the Johnsons. They're at our dock. They have some questions. "Great," Mike says. "Cari is here with me, she can help answer some questions." So there goes my opportunity for lunch and or bathroom. Run to the boat, step onto a 62 foot bundle of wonderfulness to measure, make some sketches and take LOTS of notes.
We went back up to my office where I promptly DID NOTHING! There was nothing I could do. I didn't know where any of the materials were or what these people were looking for. It was horrible. I have so much to learn. I felt so ignorant, but at least I know that I will learn, it's not like I am doomed to dumb forever. But wow. I sure felt like I was in front of a pitching machine with a wet noodle.
So, I would like to advertise that I set a personal record for myself today. I left home at 7:45 and didn't get to a bathroom until after 5pm. That can't be healthy.
